“ During a study break, i got a plan to moving forward to a quantitative research. After i have a meeting with my supervisor, i thought that only my idea and perspectives it couldn’t be enough to design something for elderly people. Online survey and interviewing is one of the most useful tools for collecting data and it has potential to lead a freshy idea, bullet point and current problems. “
How to design by research ?
First thing first, let find out the root cause analyse it such an approach of a design research. In my persepective, i’ve set up five keywords of my research approaches which are
- Aging design
- Passive design for elderly person
- Social engagement
- Exciting activities
- Urban lifestyle
What next ?
Keep analyse every single details of messy information then narrowing them down related to an objective of research. In fact, it guide me to focusing on main problems which could provide by numerical factor. Moreover, there are some useful feedback about their individual details.
By now, i feel more confident with using research method into design. It back up my design with data. However, a research is not only guide by online survey. There are a various reliable research methods but we cannot using all of them by a reason of saving time and cost. Anyway i needs at least 3 methods to back up my design.
- Survey (Quantitative)
- Interview (at least 5 people who directly related to research approach)
- Observation (field survey or case study survey)
